About me
¡Hola! I’m Jaime, a Barcelona-based writer and translator with nearly a decade of experience as a freelancer in the industries of ed-tech, marketing, entertainment and more.
I work both with brands and agencies, mainly in the EU, the UK and the US. Most of my work is in English and Spanish, but I frequently work with other languages such as Catalan, Italian, Portuguese and French.
Due to my experience as a member of multilingual teams, I have a broad network of colleagues who are native speakers of different languages from all over the world.

The project
The popular language learning app, known for its cheeky green owl, was looking for contractors to develop one of its flagship courses, Spanish for English speakers. I joined the company initially as a translator, adding all the possible translations for each item so that the app would grade the students appropriately. A few months later, I was put in charge of doing the final checks and publishing the content for the course.
My team and I successfully delivered the content of Spanish for English speakers, which went on to become Duolingo’s most popular course in terms of active users.
The role also came to incorporate QA tasks, assisting other teams on other language pairs, and collaborating in other projects and experiments.
The challenge
Apart from working with several languages (Spanish, English, Italian, French, Portuguese, and Catalan), my work also required a blend of technical skills and linguistic knowledge as I worked as the main liaison between the Learning and Engineering teams.
